Lycabettus Apartment: A Showcase of Curated Marble Design

The Lycabettus Apartment project is an exemplary case of architectural refinement, where thoughtful material selection and intricate craftsmanship have transformed an Athenian residence into a curated living space. Guided by a clear and intentional brief from its owners—two art curators returning to Athens after years abroad—Oikonomakis Siampakoulis Architects designed a unique project that has gained significant recognition in global architectural publications for its meticulous approach to materiality and restoration.
A Thoughtful Integration of Marble
Our team was honored to contribute to this project, collaborating closely with the architects to select and apply natural stone in ways that enhance the apartment’s distinctive character:
Restored Marble: Original marble from the existing apartment was carefully preserved and seamlessly reintegrated into the new design, maintaining a sense of continuity and heritage while showcasing the never-ending life cycle of marble.
Volakas Marble: With its directional veining, Volakas was used in custom dimensions and intricate cuts, carefully crafted to maintain the seamless flow of veining throughout the space.
Tinos Marble: Chosen to create an elegant kitchen backdrop and refined library shelving, adding depth and contrast with its rich green hues.
Cipollino Green, Oasis Green & Ritsona Red Marble: Crafted into bespoke tables with steel frames, these stones introduced texture and uniqueness to the apartment’s curated aesthetic.
This project highlights the enduring elegance and adaptability of Greek marble, where tradition meets innovation in a space that bridges the past with the present. It was a privilege to contribute to a project that exemplifies how thoughtful design and material curation elevate architecture to an art form.
