How Social Media Changed the Way We Use Marble

Social media has transformed not only how we see marble, but also how we use it.

In the past, marble was often applied in predictable ways — countertops, floors, bathrooms. The focus was mainly on function and tradition. Today, platforms like Instagram and Pinterest have opened up a new visual language, where marble is no longer just a material, but a design statement.

We now see marble used more creatively and more boldly. From sculptural furniture to statement walls and unexpected applications, inspiration travels instantly across the world. A project in one country can influence a designer thousands of kilometers away within seconds.

This exposure has also changed client expectations. People are more informed, more visually aware, and more willing to take risks. They don’t just want marble — they want a specific look, often inspired by something they’ve seen online.

At the same time, the demand for uniqueness has increased. Because trends spread so quickly, there is a stronger desire to stand out. This brings us back to the material itself: choosing distinctive slabs, embracing variation, and designing in a way that feels personal rather than generic.

Social media has, in a way, brought marble closer to people. It has made it more accessible, more visible, and more dynamic. But it has also raised the bar — pushing both designers and producers to think differently, work more creatively, and treat marble not just as a surface, but as a central element of design.
