The Benaki Pireos 138 Museum, transformed from a former car dealership and repair shop, epitomises the contemporary rejuvenation of downtown Athens. This striking museum showcases a brick and glass-fronted design with interior ramps and a sky-lit atrium. The thoughtful design and material choices, including wood, metal, glass and marble, highlight colour, texture and transparency, creating a rich sensory experience for the visitor.

MARBLE USED

Iranian Red Travertine

The museum’s cladding features, for the first time in a high-end Greek architectural project, the striking use of Iranian Red Travertine from J.PAPA. The pink colouring of this unique marble adds a sophisticated touch to the building's contemporary design. The precise and meticulous process of ortho-marbling - cutting the marble into specific dimensions to align perfectly with the overall pattern - was used to preserve the natural beauty and veining of the stone. To source this rare material, J.PAPA journeyed through Iran to the hill country at the border with Afghanistan.
